Roper in reining training

BHR KENO CHIC HANCOCK or “Roper” as he is known at the ranch is a 2015 15hh solid black Paint gelding. Roper is broken as a western riding ranch horse and is currently leaning the ropes of all things reining.

Reining was created to showcase the athleticism of the cow horse. Ranchers needed a horse that was able to stop quickly, spin, and control the cattle. The reining patterns create a challenge for riders, originating from the manoeuvres needed to work cattle on a ranch. Reining provides a platform for western horses to demonstrate these skills. Reining horses are trained to perform these manoeuvres on a long, loose rein, off the rider’s legs and seat.
