BHR KENO CHIC HANCOCK or “Roper” as he is known at the ranch is a 2015 15hh solid black Paint gelding out of BANDOLEROS POCO PINE, a granddaughter of PAID BY CHIC, the NRHA 10+ million dollar sire, earner of $167,471 in cutting, reining & cow horse events, and the great Poco Cow horse lines by "Shotgun" KENOS BULLHORNS HANCOCK, a son of the leading performance Paint stallion in Ireland "Cowboy" ALLSTAR CRASH HANCOCK (the grandson of the great HOT SHOT HANCOCK, with the APHA world champion roping horse Klassic Keno on his Dam's side).

Roper is broken as a western riding ranch horse and is currently leaning the ropes of all things reining. Reining was created to showcase the athleticism of the cow horse. Ranchers needed a horse that was able to stop quickly, spin, and control the cattle. The reining patterns create a challenge for riders, originating from the manoeuvres needed to work cattle on a ranch. Reining provides a platform for western horses to demonstrate these skills. Reining horses are trained to perform these manoeuvres on a long, loose rein, off the rider’s legs and seat.

Roper is showing great promise and progress in his reining patterns and is working on his walk, jog, lope, spins, rollbacks, side pass and backups.

Keep an eye on our blog to follow Roper's progress.
